There were 12 invited participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste and Papua New Guinea. This 8-week training course is designed for geoscientists or engineers involved in geoscience and mineral resources management, aiming to foster professionals from all over the world in the fields of geoscience and mineral resources. The course consisted of two parts, “exploration geology” and “exploration management and evaluation”.

CCS-M C1W1: Indonesia Case Study Workshop on CO2 Storage Site Selection

CCS-M is an important program that will promote collaboration among CCOP Member Countries in mapping potential geological sites for storage of CO2 and estimating their storage capacity based on international standards. The Case Study workshop, C1W1, was organized in Bali, Indonesia on 25-27 Feb 2015 in cooperation with the Geological Agency of Indonesia and LEMIGAS, both under the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs thru the Royal Norwegian Embassy - Jakarta and Global CCS Institute respectively.

Tectonic Evolution and Sedimentation of South China Sea Region, 26-27 May 2015, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

AAPG Asia Pacific will be organizing a 2-day Geosciences Technology Workshop on “Tectonics and Sedimentation of South China Sea Region”, from 26-27 May 2015, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. This workshop is supported proudly by CCOP.

This two-day workshop will bring together the key knowledge holders of the region and give the opportunities to those who are interested to exchange ideas. The objective of the workshop is to provide a regional picture of the geology and tectonic of the region, understand the knowledge gap and hopefully provide a steer for future research projects.

The CCOP-GSJ/AIST-DGR Groundwater Project Phase III Kick-off Meeting

It was attended by forty-five participants from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam and the CCOP Technical Secretariat.

The Opening Ceremony started with the Welcome Remarks and Addresses delivered by Dr. Adichat Surinkum, Director of the CCOP Technical Secretariat, and Dr. Youhei Uchida, Groundwater Project Leader, Senior Researcher of Geological Survey of Japan, AIST. The Opening Speech was made by Miss Vilavan Thaisongkram, Director of Central Administration, Department of Groundwater Resources, Thailand.

CCOP- DMR–EGAT Mae Moh Workshop on Clean & Green Mining

The CCOP Technical Secretariat, together with Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), has successfully co-organized the Technical Workshop on Clean & Green Mining on 21- 24 January 2015 in EGAT Mae Moh, Lampang, Thailand.   There were 36 local participants and organizers, 4 resource persons from the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), Germany and EGAT, 7 CCOP Member Countries (Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar) and  4 CCOP TS attending the two-day technical seminar and two-day excursion in Mae Moh Mine, Lampang and Siam Cement Group (SCG), Chaehom District, Lampang.

CCOP-DMF Workshop on the Application of UNFC 2009

Aiming to facilitate the development of the oil and gas reserves reporting guidelines and implementation of reporting standard in the CCOP region, the CCOP-DMF Workshop on the application of UNFC 2009: Classification and Reporting of Petroleum Resources/reserves and CO2 Injection Projects was organized in Bangkok on December 8-11, 2014.

A total of 42 participants from CCOP member countries – Cambodia, Indonesia, Korea, Lao-PDR, Malaysia, PNG, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand (DMF and other Thai agencies) and CCOP TS, attended S3.  While member countries have varying needs and procedures in reporting petroleum reserves (& resources), it is common practice to use a standard classification such as the Petroleum Resource Management System (PRMS) that is developed by SPE/WPC/AAPG/SPEE. The PRMS is aligned with UNFC 2009 and is now the bridging document for the petroleum sector providing a tool for all countries to report accurate and consistent estimates, coherent with other scientific and social/economic information.

BGR-CCOP Workshop on State Management of Mining Activities in ASEAN Countries

UNEP-CCOP-GSJ/AIST Workshop on the Risk Management of Mercury in and around the Artisanal/Small-Scale Gold Mining Sites

CCOP in cooperation with Geological Survey of Japan (GSJ), AIST, organized the Technical Workshop on the Risk Management of Mercury in and around the Artisanal/Small-Scale Gold Mining Sites (ASGM) on 21 November 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting is within the framework of the UNEP Project entitled “Risk management of mercury contamination in Asia and the Pacific”, funded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and led by Dr. Satoshi Murao from the Institute for Geo-Resources and Environment, GSJ/AIST.

The aim of this workshop is to share the information on environmental preservation and risk management in mineral mining activities with Asian and Pacific countries, with focus on mercury issues arising from artisanal/small-scale mining (ASGM). The workshop also aims at establishing strategies to mitigate the impact of mercury, to help governments and local communities to manage the risk, and to find holistic agenda to grow ASGM as environmentally sound industry.
