Dr. Young Joo Lee, Director of CCOP TS, along with Dr. Dhiti Tulyatid, Regional Expert, officially visited the Vietnam Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (VIGMR), Hanoi on April 24th, 2019.
Professor Dr. Tran Tan Van, Director General, VIGMR was informed about the recent MoU signing between CCOP and YES (Young Earth Scientists).
Dr Lee indicated his intention to make CCOP the best geoscience international organization in the region. He also encouraged that Vietnam and all Member Countries set up its CCOP National Committee to have all relevant offices and organization working together for the country.
In addition, CCOP Director put emphasis on Vietnam to nominate Vietnamese Young Earth Scientist as the national YES Network Coordination in order to promote the new generation of earth scientist, since YES Network has now joined CCOP as one of the Cooperating Organization. Moreover, participation of more women in CCOP activities was highly encouraged.
Dr. Trinh Hai Son Informed that Vietnam will host 2021 CCOP Annual Session and Steering Committee. Also, VIGMR will be more active with CCOP on many topics including Global Geopark, climate change, geohazards, etc. On a final note, Vietnam will organize a UNESCO Geopark Meeting at Ly Son – Sa Huynh Geopark during June 18th-19th this year and encouraged to have participants from CCOP TS.
