The 10th session of Expert Group on Resource Management


 The UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Resource Management Week was held in Geneva, Switzerland during April 29th – May 3rd, 2019. This meeting was organized by the Committee on Sustainable Energy, Economic Commission for Europe and Social Council.

 Dr. Dhiti Tulatid, Regional Expert, CCOPT TS, participated in the meeting as a representative of CCOP and reported on the activities of CCOP related to UNFC & UNRMS.

 On April 29th-30th, 2019, the meeting covered the Workshop on the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNFC – UNRMS Workshop), which training and presentation on UNFC and UNRMS and its alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was included. The workshop was given by Per Blystad, Sigurd Heiburg, & Michael Neumann. In addition, Resources for sustainable development: challenges, opportunities & outlook was delivered by Bas de Leeuw, Managing Director World Resources Forum Association. David MacDonald talked about the “UNFC to UNRMS”, specifically, what resource management means in the context of UNRMS.

 On May 1st, 2019, a welcome remark was delivered by Olga Algayerova, Executive Secretary, UNECE.  Dr. Young Joo Lee, Director of CCOP TS, was among new nominations and was approved to become a member of the Bureau.

 Scott Foster, Director of UNECE Sustainable Energy Division added the challenges regarding after the bridging documents published by China and another publication were successfully made: Reducing the use of energy through the bureau activities and How to get the people in-charge to use the tools that we may come up with to tackle the problems.

 Later, Igor Shpurov, First vice-chair EGRM & GKZ, Russian Federation gave a speech on “The vision and goals for sustainable resource management”. During his speech, he provided a good example of the proposed Center for the use of UNFC for resource classification for Russia, with all the short- and long-term plans/targets. Along with, pathways to Sustainable Energy Project and recommendations from EGRM were delivered by Gioia Falcone, Lead of Geothermal Sub-Group, IGA and EGRM.

 The Following day,  May 2nd, 2019, a special talk on UNECE & SPE Swiss, France and Italian Sections Lecture: “Uberizing Energy: How Digital Technologies will Change the Competitive Landscape of the Energy Sector” was given by Dr. Robert Perrons, Associate Professor, Queensland University of Technology. Australia.

 On the last day, May 3rd, 2019, a session was moderated by Sigurd Heiberg, Director, Petrad and Chair of EGRM Commercial Working Group. The importance of CCOP facilitating and supporting the International Centers of Excellence and representing its Member Countries in East and Southeast Asia Region was acknowledged.  The same day, Dr. Dhiti Tulyatid, CCOP TS, gave a report on CCOP activities related to UNFC. During the presentation, he introduced CCOP and emphasized that, Dr. Young Joo Lee has recently taken up the Director position of the CCOP Technical Secretariat Office.
