Official Visit to the Department of Mineral Fuels


On May 22nd, 2019,  Dr.Young Joo Lee, Director of CCOP TS, along with Dr.Dhiti Tulyatid, Regional Expert, and Ms.Marivic Pulvera Uzarraga, Manager: Project Operation and Information, officially visited the Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF), Ministry of Energy, Bangkok, Thailand.

Ms Premrutai Vinaiphat, Director General of DMF, and staff including: Dr Phumee Srisuwon, Deputy Director General, Mr Wutthipong Khongphetsak, Head of the Unconventional Group, and Mr Thananchai Mahatthanachai, Professional Geologist and a coordinator to CCOP-Uncon Project, welcomed the director of CCOP and staff.

Dr.Lee notified Ms Premrutai, DG of DMF, about his recent position as Director of CCOP TS. The Director of CCOP TS indicated his intention to make CCOP the best geoscience international organization in the region. He also said that CCOP would like to encourage all Member Countries to set up its CCOP National Committee to include all relevant offices and organization working together for the country. He would encourage the Republic of Korea to set up a national committee while Thailand already has. Both sides realized that DMF is among the member of the Thailand’s CCOP National Committee, along with other related departments such as the Department of Groundwater Resources, Department of Primary Industries and Mines, Department of Coastal and Marine Resources with the Department of Mineral Resources through Director General represent Thailand to CCOP.

Dr. Lee expressed his gratitude to DMF for all the various cooperation received such as; the UnCon Project Phase II participated by DMF. The UnCon II has recently identified a total of 46 potential shale basins and now is at the stage of resource calculation. This project provides a programme on capacity building.

 CCOP looks forward to having further cooperation with DMF. CCOP also invited DMF to co-host (with DMR) the upcoming CCOP Annual Session and Steering Committee in Chiang Mai during the first week of November 2019.
