Dr Oystein Berg received an Honorary Doctorate


Dr Oystein Berg, Honorary Advisor of CCOP, and former representative of PETRAD to CCOP, received an "Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Engineering' from Petronas University of Technology on Sunday, 25 October 2015.  The presentation was done by Prof Chancellor Tan Sri Sidek Hassan, Chairman Board of Directors of Petronas, on behalf of Dr. Mahathir Mohammad, Former Prime Minister of Malaysia who was not able to come to the occasion. The presentation of the 'Honorary Doctorate' was part of the Convocation Ceremony for 1150 graduating students (PhD, MSc and BSc) and witnessed by approximately 3000 people in the Hall.
 
Dr. Berg has participated in a large number of national and international advisory committees in the petroleum sector and within R&D. He has since 1984 been Advisor to Government Agencies and National Oil Companies in Asia through the CCOP and ASCOPE Organizations. Prior to establishing Petrad, Dr. Berg also lectured on topics related to industrial maintenance, risk and reliability and safety in the offshore petroleum industry in USA, Asia and Europe.  
 
Dr. Berg received in 2004 the “Friendship Award” from the Chinese Government for long standing cooperation on knowledge sharing in the petroleum sector. This is the highest award given to foreigners by the Chinese Government.  He has also received similar recognitions from CCOP (2006) and ASCOPE (2009 and 2013), the organizations representing the Government Agencies for Resource Management and the National Oil Companies in East and Southeast Asia.
 
From 2006 to 2012 Dr. Berg was a member of the Academic Advisory Board of University Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia, under the Chairmanship of former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamed. 
In the period 2007 - 2010 Dr. Berg was a member of the 3 man nominations committee for the Malaysian ‘Merdeka Award’ – Health, Science and Technology category.
 
Dr. Berg was in October 2014 appointed Honorary Advisor to CCOP, the organization for the government agencies responsible for resources management in 15 countries in East and South East Asia.
 
The CCOP Member Countries, Cooperating Countries and Organizations, and CCOP Honorary Advisers extend warm congratulations to Dr Oystein Berg for having received this "Honorary Doctorate" from Malaysia's Petronas University of Technology.
