Attendance to the 75th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific


  

During May 27th – 31st,2019 Dr.Young Joo Lee, Director of CCOP TS and Dr.Dhiti Tulyatid, Regional Expert, represented CCOP TS and attended the 75th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) at the United Nations Building, Bangkok, Thailand.

The seventy-fifth session of the Commission was held on May 27th – 31st, 2019 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. The session was comprised of a ministerial segment, which was held on May 27th, and 28th, and a senior officials segment, from May 29th to 31st. In 2019, theme study was focused on the “Empowerment and Inclusion in Asia and the Pacific”.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakkri Sirindhorn also presented at the Opening Session among chairs and distinguished guests. HRH delivered an address at the Session focusing on the importance of education, challenges facing, which include the citizenship, agriculture, natural resources (forest, water, and biodiversity), population growth, and related economy. She also emphasized on the importance of international cooperation to the sustainable development.

 The meeting discussed on the following topics:

  1. Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality, a general debate.
  2. Special body on Least Developed, Landlocked Developing and Pacific Island Developing Countries;
  3. Review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific: Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development; Social development; Environment and development; Disaster risk reduction; Energy; Transport; Macroeconomic policy, poverty reduction and financing for development; Trade and investment; information and communications technology, science, technology and innovation; Statistics.
  4. Sub regional perspectives on the thematic topic: Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.
  5. Management issues: Proposed programme plan for 2020; programme changes for the biennium 2018-2019; overview of partnerships, extra budgetary contributions and capacity development; Report on the evaluation of the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology;
  6. Activitiesof the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives and other Representatives Designated by Members of the Commission.
