During November 17-20 2016, National Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) of Japan, Department of Groundwater Resources (DGR) of Thailand and Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) of Republic of Korea co-organized two(2) important meetings in Chiang Mai Thailand on Geothermal. The first, a workshop on “Opportunities and Benefits of Geothermal Use” was held on 17th November where best practices of direct use were presented by experts from around the world.
The CCOPTS Director was invited to present on “Ground Source Heat Pump, Geothermal Direct Use, Development in CCOP Member Countries”. This is the output of the 3rd Phase of CCOP-GSJ/AIST Groundwater Project led by Dr. Youhei Uchida. The GSHP are now installed and being tested in Thailand Indonesia and Vietnam in order to find the best practices on different groundwater models.
The second was 11th ASIAN Geothermal Symposium on 18-20 November, where experts presented updated status, new innovation on exploration and exploitation and collaboration program. They also shared ideas on opportunities and barriers in each topic at the end of this symposium. It was also a very good opportunity for those who involved in the development of the First Geothermal Power Plant in Thailand to share their memories during the site visit on Saturday, 19th November.
